Gui Zhi
Gan Cao Tang

Gui Zhi Gan Cao Tang (SHL 64):

  • Gui Zhi 12
  • Zhi Gan Cao 6

SS: hands over heart, palpitations below the heart. SHL Clause 64: “When copious sweating has been promoted and the person’s hands are crossed over the heart and there are palpitations below the heart with a desire for pressure, Cinnamon Twig and Licorice Decoction (guì zhī gān cǎo tāng) governs.”

A great mini formula to use on patients who have heart yang deficiency after loosing a lot of sweat (sweat being the fluid of the heart in TCM theory). The patient will look ‘deficient’ and will want to put their hands on their heart when they get palpitations.
